sylvester stallone-2-820x1024The character of Green Beret "John Rambo" was created by Canadian author David Morrell, and his novel was brought to the screen with Stallone as the main character in First Blood (1982), featuring Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy. It was a spectacular movie that was a polarizing success because of its commentary on the Vietnam war, which was still fresh in the American public's psyche. The film, despite its political stance it was a huge success internationally. The sequel, Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), was released in 1985. It received much more criticism due to the plotline that alleged American MIAs were detained by the government of Vietnam. Some say that bad publicity is not feasible. "John Rambo"'s second installment made a lot of money for Stallone which made him one of the top male actors in the 1980s. Amid a flurry of incredible success, Stallone called on old his sparring partner Rocky Balboa to climb back in the ring and defend American pride against an ominous Soviet danger in the form of a towering Russian boxer dubbed "Ivan Drago" played by curly Dolph Lundgren. Rocky IV (1985). Due to the amount of violence that was featured of the film's fourth installment excessive, it was controversial among "Rocky" enthusiasts. The brutality levels were especially high compared to the preceding Rocky movies.
